Description:
Dragomirna Monastery was founded by Grand Metropolitan and scholar Anastasius Crimca. Dragomirna Monastery is famous not only for its age, but especially for the originality of the style, for its elegance and sobriety.
How can you get there?
The Monastery is close to the forest, towards the village Mitocu Dragomirnei. It is located 15 km north of Suceava.
Why is it absolutely fantastic?
The Monastery Church, with a monumental silhouette, has a narrow and elongated structure, completed with a polygonal apse in the west part.
Window frames with Gothic elements harmonize with the decorations of the tower, which are of purely Romanian influence.
The walls and vaults of the nave, and those of the altar are covered with frescos.
The original iconostasis of Dragomirna was not preserved, it is in Arbore Church, this one was brought in 1793 from the city of Solca. It is worked in yew wood, under the influence of Central European rococo style, richly carved and gilded.
The present day pews date from 1976. More recent, from 2002, the iconostasis surrounding the miracle-working icon of Mary and canopy that shelters the relics of Martyr Iacob Persul, brought to Dragomirna in 1697, as mentioned by the pall of silk in which they were preserved.
