Description:
Moldoviţa is an old monastic settlement, with an important and glorious historical past, watching for centuries the northern border of Moldova. The painted church of the monastery is stated on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The provenience of this monastery remains shrouded in the darkness of time, the tradition still speaks of its existence during princes Muşatini's period who protected it.
How can you get there?
The monastery is situated in the village of Vatra Moldovitei at a distance of about 15 km of Vama, Suceava County.
Why is it magnificent?
The narthex vault is interesting - instead of four Moldavian arches there is a system of eight arches, having the appearance of a star. In the northwest part there is a stone staircase leading to the treasure room. The nave has two lateral semicircular apses. The arch is traditional from Moldova, like other churches in the era of Petru Rares. The floor is entirely of stone. Outside, the church and the tower are decorated in cornice with a row of niches elongated in aisles. The roof of the church is entirely of shingle-tree.
Moldoviţa is second after the Humor Monastery and the last of the monasteries in Bucovina with an open porch.
