Description:
The monastery was built in 1602 by Nestor Ureche, father of the chronicler Grigore Ureche.
The restoration of the monastery began in 1968 under the care of parents Justin Patriarch, Metropolitan of Moldova and Suceava.
How can you get there?
The monastery is situated at a distance of 22 km from the town of Targu Neamt, on the road that connects Targu Neamt County with the village Pipirig.
Why is it special?
Placed in a lovely clearing that lies at the foot of Mount Bashan, protected on all sides by wooded heights, Secu Monastery looks like an impressive fortress. Inside, the church was painted again in 1850, and the veil of the nave dates from the same year. One can see two small niches in the walls of the tomb chamber. There is the tomb of the founder, Nestor Ureche and on the left - his wife Mitrofana's grave. Outside, around the church, there are the graves of various senior clergyman of the Church. In the southern front right, there is a niche containing the tomb of Bishop Metropolitan Varlaam.
The massive walls, with towers in each corner and adjacent buildings, surround the church The walls and towers were repaired during the reign of Vasile Lupu. The commemorative inscription, originally placed by Vasile Lupu at Neamt fortress, is etched in the southwest tower. The Monastic buildings were rebuilt after the terrible fire of1821.
