Description:
Sucevita Monastery was built in the last decades of the XVI century, with the entire expense of Movila boyars family, of which Jeremiah ruled Moldova between 1595-1606. Sucevita was built as a true monastery - citadel, with massive walls and strong interior defence towers, brilliant foundation, true heraldry of Movila family. The Church is representative of the Moldavian architecture style, a harmonious junction of Byzantine Art and Gothic elements, to which architectural elements of the old churches of Moldova are added. The monastery is part of the Bucovina monasteries including Voronet, Humor, Arbore, Moldovita, Dragomirna, Putna Monasteries. Other tourist attractions in the area: Citadel Fortress of Suceava city or Bogdana Church from the city of Radauti.

On national road 17A Radauti, to South West to the Marginea (11 km), Sucevita (5 km), Suceava County.
Why is it so very special?
Sucevita Monastery, built as a fortress, represent a real "will of Moldavian art" and is the most articulated complex of iconography of medieval churches in Moldova. The museum of the monastery, situated in the former prince's houses, contains masterpieces of exceptional value of medieval religious art.
When can you visit Sucevita Monastery?
You can only visit Sucevita Monastery between dawn-sunset, dressed very decently.
