Dolj Historical vestiges

Description:

• Casa Baniei-Craiova- the oldest building in town and one of the oldest of its kind in the country. It was built in 1699 by Prince Constantin Brancoveanu. Currently houses the Museum of Ethnography and Folk Art;

• Glogoveanu House -  XVIII  century building, which belonged Glogoveni boyars, in which Tudor Vladimirescu lived for a period of time;

• Jianu House- it is supposed to be built at the end of the XVIII century by Jianu family;

• Popova Fountain- built by Prince Matei Basarab (XVII century);

• Odobescu Fountain-  built in 1774;

• Jianu Fountain (1800)-  the tradition mentions that here Jianu Iancu, the famous haiduc stopped;

Other historical vestiges: Cula Poenarilor from Almaj (XVIII century), Casa Cotofenilor from Cotofenii din Fata (1653), ruins from the Roman camp from Racari (I - III centuries AD), historical vestiges of Neolithic and Bronze Age at Cotofenii de Jos ( from Cotofeni culture)
