The
Snagov Lake, which is located on the banks of the
village Snagov, is oblong, very tortuous, with many coves, has a length of 16.5
kilometres, the maximum width of 400 m, maximum depth 9 m, a volume of 17.3
million cubic meters and its area is 780 ha of which 650 ha water surface and
the remaining is represented by the reed.
How can you get there?
It is situated at a distance of 25-30 km from Bucharest
Why is it special?
It is the largest and most important lake of the Romanian Plain, with a rich fish fauna (catfish, carp, pike, bream, perch, etc.) And some rare species of Ponto-Caspian relicts and interesting elements of aquatic flora among which pop-weed (relict tertiary), arrow water, lily white and Indian lily (introduced by the humans) may be found there. On the bottom of the lake rich vegetation is continuously developing.
The Snagov Lake is part of the Complex Snagov Reserve. Currently 100 hectares of Snagov Lake forest of 10 hectares of former Codru Vlasiei are included in the protected areas. In the area of the Snagov Park, there is a scientific reserve to protect lowland beech.
Around the lake large and heavy forests of oak, hornbeam, linden, ash, elm, etc. grow. Fauna is very diverse and one can find predominantly wild boar, birds and animals of forest, but also of slough.
When can you visit it?
You can visit Snagov everytime you want, by boat, or just looking at the lake.
