National Museum of Romanian Literature

Category: Museums and galleries

Description:

The Romanian Literature Museum was founded iin 1950. It was set up due to the Eminescu documentary project financially sustained by individual funds donated by the Romanian writers, and their legal association, with the occasion of the Eminescu`s birth centenarian celebration. Dumitru Panaitescu Perpessicius succeeded to found the Romanian literature Museum using the documentary funds received from the Writers Association in 1950, in collaboration with famous personalities of the literary life in Romania such as: Tudor Vianu, Serban Cioculescu, Jacques Byck, Tudor Arghezi, Mihai Beniuc, Victor Eftimiu, and a small circle of experts, The institution was destined, in its first manager's vision, to become a research institute so that it could revive the literary life pulse during its development epochs. Since 1970, the headquarters of the museum was situated in a building from Dacia boulevard, a building known in Bucharest`s history as Kretzulescu House. Placed in the centre of Bucharest (Romana Square), the building is among the first neoclassic edifices in Bucharest. The construction was restored and renovated entirely in accordance with the initial architectural blueprints.

THE MUSEUM TODAY

The Romanian Literature Museum is a modern one now, an European standard institution, and the first interactive museum in Romania, an open and dynamic museum which promotes an usual cultural product, fit for the XXI th century, offering to the public a fast access to a huge amount  of information, in an interactive and visually attractive format, answering to the contemporary visitor's cultural, educational and diversion needs.

THE NEW EXHIBITION PROJECT

The main motivation of the new exhibition project is a dynamic relation between the visitors and the cultural products offered by the Romanian literature Museum. Conceptually, the whole idea started with the exhibitional literary outlook's reinventing, in accordance with the top technological European evolution in the field. The concept of the project reccomends a modern alternative to the old "rigid image within the cabinet', through associated digital multimedia technologies (computers, audio-video systems, touch monitors, plasma screens, multimedia applications) and a complete translation of the information into English language. The main goal of the exhibition project was to open again the museum to the public, especially the young visitors. The permanent interactive present exhibition is based on -game, image and text. If the classic museums the public's attitude towards the exhibits is educated in the don't touch mentality, the new exhibition concept turns this relation upside down: the public will directly interact with the exhibits, documents and replicas, will participate directly, without interference. To their creation, The Present museum no longer a rigid space, a sort of taboo, on the contrary, it becomes a space of creativity, relaxation and mind recreation!
