Founded on December 18th , 1923, the museum occupies today an important place in the cultural life of Romania being also among the largest settlements of its kind in the world. With an area of 22,150 sqm, the museum contains a priceless heritage of military history on 32 unique collections held unique as profile and seven sections.

One does not have to be passionate about any weapon, nor by history, in order to enjoy what you can find in the Central Military Museum. Instead, you need to have much patience, in order to browse the 32 collections totalling over one million and a half pieces, 700,000 books, periodicals, maps and documents that you will get in your way. In the museum building you can see almost everything from banal crossbows, to tactical missiles and fighters.
For the first time in post-war history, a very large space was devoted to participation of the Romanian army in the East campaign. The public is presented photos, maps and objects that belonged to those who sacrificed themselves for the liberation of Basarabia and Northern Bucovina and in the battles fought in the expanse of the Soviet Union until Stalingrad and Caucasus.
Another large space has been allocated to the end of 1989. There are exposed, among other relics of terrible events, the gun that killed the army commander, General Vasile Milea, and his blood-stained military coat.
The park of military technique of the inner courtyard of the museum, also a rare thing, extends over an area of 2000 m2. Of the 150 pieces scattered here, 44 are unique worldwide, and 70, only national. You can walk through all sorts of artillery pieces, tanks, missiles, aircraft, sea mines. Collections of arms, decorations, uniforms, flags, harness and carriages and aviation section presents, each one is incredible.
