Cismigiu Park

Description:

Cişmigiu Garden was created by landscape architect Carl F.W.Meyer come in the summer of 1843. It is located on marshy land with several ponds, with underground springs which never dry. In 1851 a feverish activity began with the execution and new planting of  material was ( liriodendron, magnolia, hazelnuts, pear, ash shaggy, decorative apple). The inauguration took place on March 22 1860.

 

Location: Located in the centre of Bucharest, has an area of about 16 hectares and is bounded by two major thoroughfares: Queen Elizabeth Boulevard Schitu Magureanu Boulevard. In the southeast part of the garden there is the National College Gheorghe Lazar.

 

Points of interest :

• Garden of Roses - composed of small stone walls, wooden pergola, iron chains to expose the numerous varieties of roses;
• Roman Round - which is a circular platform with a diameter of 20 m. The perimeter of the Round is planted with clipped forms of yew (cone);
• Garden of particular interest to visitors by building a restaurant on an island, a kiosk for orchestra;
• Lake - was arranged in 1910 by Rebhun. On Summer you can go boating and on winter skating;
• Corner with trees and shrubs - with leaves persisting even on winter (near Gheorghe Lazar Lyceum)
• Corner for chess players;
• Children's corner - around Lake Cretulescu arranged with small architectural features, culverts, railings;
• Eminescu's Spring - located on the slope from Prince Stirbei Blvd;
• It should be noted that Cismigiu Garden is unique in terms of design and dendrological materials, here are some examples reported finding "protected trees", such as:
• Platanus x acerifolia;
• Torrey nucifera - near Cave;
• Torrey California;
• Cedrus atlantica (Japanese red pine);
• Reverse Picea excelsa (red spruce).
