Banat & Crisana

Banat is a historic province which today comprises parts of Romania, Serbia (Serbian Banat) and a small part of Hungary.

Where do I find  Banat & Crisana?

Banat region is located between the Southern Carpathians (Banat Mountains), the rivers: Danube, Tisa and Mures.

Crisana Region - occupies part of the west of the country and is crossed by Black Crisu and Fast Crisu.

Banat & Crisana historical territory is now divided as follows: 

- Timis county
- Caras-Severin, without localities Bucova, Cornişoru, Bouţarii bottom and top Bouţarii and Preveciori
- Arad County, just south of the Mures
- Mehedinti County-  Baia Noua, Dubova, Eibenthal, Eselnita, Orsova and Sviniţa. Several other villages in the area have disappeared in the lake accumulation Portile de Fier (Iron Gates). 

- Hunedoara County, only localities Salcia and Pojoga. 

Three large cities, which have not been part of the historical Banat and have expanded over time their administrative territories in Banat where, today, have districts:

• Arad (New Arad )
• Belgrad (Palilula)
• Seghedin (Újszeged)

              White Cris Gorge and that of  Mures river with  basins and narrow gorges often carved in volcanic rocks,  intermittent karst spring - a natural monument, Apuseni Mountains are just some great tourist attractions, which give the area a special charm. In addition to the Gorges karst Galbenei, Fortress Radesei, Padis - The Fortress of Ponor - the most important in Romania, and Bears Cave , declared monument of nature, with a length of 1,500 m and  Ruginoasa Pit  formed by erosion, having in depth over 100 m and 450 m in diameter, all these fill the landscape of this fascinating area.
