Peles Castle in Sinaia, the most impressive castle in Romania, is a major tourist landmark in the Prahova Valley. Initially, the royal summer residence (until 1947), the castle was built of wood, stone, brick and marble, on the left bank of the river Peles, between 1873 - 1883 (first floor) and between 1896 and 1914 (second floor), by Carol I of Hohenzolleren - first king of Romania (1866 - 1914), in German Renaissance style, after the plans of Viennese architect Wilhelm von Doderer and the German Johann Schultz in Lemberg (Lovov), with changes and additions made by the Czech architect Karel in the years 1896 - 1914. Pelisor was built following the desire of King Carol I, as the primary residence of the heirs Ferdinand and Maria.

 

How you can get there? 

 

Peles Castle is situated in Sinaia (44 km from Brasov and 122 km from Bucharest) and on the road to choose E60 or National Road 1. Pelisor Castle is situated in the Peles castle park located in Prahova Valley.

 

Why is it so exquiste? 

 

The armor rooms are to be noted, Florentina room, reception room (that exhibits paintings of the 16 castles belonging to the family of Hohenzzolern), French Room, Turkish Chamber, Council Hall, concert hall and the Imperial Suite.

Peles Castle Arms Collection contains over 4000 pieces that can be divided in the parade and hunting weapons. Art furniture that decorates most of the rooms contains originals dating from the fifteenth century, made in famous European workshops in Mainz, Munich, Vienna, Hamburg.

 

Stained glass windows were purchased between 1883 and 1914. Some of them are genuine, Swiss and German parts of the fifteenth century, the eighteenth century, others dating from the nineteenth century and early twentieth century - the windows were worked in the workshops of Zettler (Munich) and Zwolfer (Vienna).

 

Pelişor has only 99 rooms, compared to Peles Castle with 160 rooms. The whole house was decorated for a princely residence, and bears the imprint of a strong personality: Queen Mary. The hall of honour is panelled with oak. Gold bedroom is decorated according to the plans and drawings ordered by the queen. Everything was decorated by Queen's plans and her office and the Chamber walls are decorated with gold leaves, thistles, why drag, Here her children grew: Charles (later King Charles II), Marioara (Queen of Yugoslavia), Elizabeth (Queen of Greece) and Nicholas.

The price of a ticket for adults is 50 lei (Extended Tour), 15 lei (ground), 10 lei (Pelisor), and the price of a ticket for pupils, students and pensioners is 5 lei (Extended Tour),2 lei (ground ) and 3 lei (Pelisor).
