Description:
The Brukenthal Museum of Sibiu is a prestigious European institution and one of the most important among the cultural places in the country.
Its collections were created by Baron Samuel von Brukenthal (1721-1803), governor of Transylvania (1777-1787), were visited already in 1790, three years before the opening of Musee du Louvre.
The official opening of the museum took place in 1817. It is, therefore, the oldest museum in the country.

The museum has in its composition:
- Brukenthal Palace;
- History Museum;
- Natural History Museum;
- History of Pharmacy Museum;
- Arms and Hunting Trophies Museum of.
The buildings that house these museums are historical monuments.
The headquarters are located in Brukenthal Palace Museum, which is one of the most important Baroque monuments in Romania, built in stages between 1778-1788, in order to serve Samuel von Brukenthal as the official residence and to house its collections.
It still keeps a number of original elements as von Brukenthal family coat of arms on the facade, furniture, artistic carpentry, wallpaper, locksmith elements (handles, locks the doors), stoves of tile and chandeliers.
The palace houses the Art Gallery and Brukenthal Library.
