Priest Zosim Oancea Museum of Sibiel lodges the largest exhibition of glass icons existing nowadays in Transylvania. Built since 1969, the creation of the priest Zosim Oancea and of the community from Sibiel has collected more than 600 masterpieces, the main types of icons on glass.

Why is it so very nice?
Painting on glass is a millenary technique, entered Transylvania region in the Habsburg Empire after the annexation (1699). It was widely spread and as the result of a miracle happened at Nicula Monastery (northern Transylvania), where on 15th February 1694 (or 1699) on the face of the Virgin with Child, on the wood icon there were tears as if Madonna had cried for 26 days. The miraculous event transformed the village into the destination of great pilgrimages, on which occasion the faithful wanted to obtain an image of the Virgin Mary and one that should take home. From there the glass icon painting developed in in Transylvania.
When can you visit it?
Museum is open to visitors every day of the year.
No reservation.

Spring and summer: 8-13.30, 14-20.
