Geographical position

                North-eastern Romania,  (central-western Moldavia), on the wide Bistrita valley and on the Moldavian valley, at the confluence with the Siret, guarded by the Ceahlau Mountain.

                On the north-west Suceava County, on the east: lasi and Vaslui Counties, on the south: Bacau County, on the west Harghita County;

Relief

                Is varied and uneven for the most part, structured on levels from the west to the east with the mountains on the west (that cover more than half of the county's surface) with Stanisoara (1,531 m),Bistrita (1,864 m), Ceahltiu (with Ocolasu Mare Peak, 1907 m) - "The Moldavian Olympus", Tarcau. Hasmas, divided by longitudinal valleys, the Sub-Carpathian hills (Moldavian Sub-Carpathians,  in the centre,  closing the Sub-Carpathian Depressions of Neamt and Cracau Bistrita, as well as the 900 m high ridges of the Plesului Hills, prolonged from the north to the south), that disappear in the wide corridor valley (widened by well developed terraces, especially at the confluence with the Moldova River) of the Siret across of which, raise the hills of the Barlad Plateau.

Climate

                It Is continental, with important variations depending on the relief with winds blowing predominantly from the north-west and the west, and on the Siret Valley from the north and the south;  the average annual temperature is 8- 9°C, in January -6 - -10°C and in July 10 - 20°C.

Watercourses

                Bistrita river crosses the county with its tributaries:  Bistricloara, Bicaz, Tarctiu, Cracãu, the inferior course of Moldavia and a part of the middle course of the Siret at the county border.

In the last years, Piatra Neamt has become a city with an avanguard attitude. There is a city market by its past as well as by modemity. You will be connected with the past of the city from the very arrival in the railway station which once was used by Francis Ford Coppola as background for he movies. Walking few meters, the visitor will have contact with the modern side of the city, such as the modem construction of the funicular station. We have narrow streets, but here, in Piatra Neamt , you  will enjoy the tranquility of a small province city with its relaxing and elegant buildings.  All these elements offer the certainty that in short notice the tourists will adopt the Piatra Neamt product and will include it in their vacation plans.

Presentation

The Piatra Neamt city, the Capital of Neamt County, is  situated in the North-Eastern part of Romania, in one of the most beautiful intramountain depression, bordered by the Oriental Carpathians.  Placed at the confluence of two rivers,  Cuejdiu and Bistrita, at an average altitude of 301 m. the city is surrounded by mountains-Pietricica (528 m),  Cozle (650 m), Cernegura (850 m) and Carloman (617 m),  and has all the advantages provided by an unique natural environment, with a continental-temperate climate. Due to its position, at the confluence of important commercial routes, the city has known a strong development in the modern times. Piatra Neamt has become the most important urban center in Neamt region and the Capital of the county. The industry, the banking services and the public proceedings have known a strong development, concomitant with the flourishing of a cultural life.

                The nowadays Piatra Neamt distinguishes itself due to its modern architecture, in harmony with the natural landscape, offering to the city a special picturesque background. This is why the city is called The Moldavian Peal, a name righfully ascribed.  A trip with the funicular starting from the railway station area, crossing from above its historical side on a 2150 m route, and ending on the Cozla Mountain,  will convince the visitors of this name.

                The tourists who love history and beauty may visit the Architectural Assembly The PrinceIy Court, numerous museums and ancient churches placed in Piatra Neamt, or may choose to travel  on Batca Montain, visiting the Dacian  ruins in Petrodava.  Also, many hiking  routes are placed on the mountains from the city`s surroundings.

                The ski track for advanced sports fans (there are two more ski tracks in project - one for beginners and another one of average difficulty) and thetubing track to children placed on Cozla Mountain, together with all the afferent facilities made Piatra Neamt , the main attractive destination on winter time for the inhabitants from the Northern part of Romania, and not only for them.

                In the summer season, the Tineretului swimming pool placed at the foot of Cernegura Mountain, the biggest arid the most modem in the North-Eastern side of the country, receives annually tens of thousands of visitors. Completely transformed due to an investment of over 4 million Euros, the pool is endowed with two water pools in open air, tennis and football fields with artificial grass, volleyball and baskethall fields with sand fitting out, skateboard and skates tracks, playground for children, paintball fields, open bars, clubs and disco places.  Some may choose to spend a longer holiday in the 30 condos or in huts with several suites, built here.

                The city's stadium - property of Piatra Neamt, fulfills the UEFA standards in organizing national and intenational competitions, and for that matter the stadium was endowed with nocturnal illumination on the training fields, also was realized the restoration of the stadium's platform, the modem fence of the stadium, the arrangement of an athletics track, and the field for training sessions was covered with synthetic grass and was endowed with electric healing. The stadium's capacity was enhanced to 17,500 seats. The construction of one of the biggest polyvalent sports hall with a 40,000 seats capacity is near to be finished.

                The health center AnaSpa represents a good alternative for rainy days. The main attraction is the sauna, which gave the fame of the city due to the river stones used in the process. A unique attraction is also the salt room, a huge salt cellar, valuable for the air's purity. The salt specially brought from Praid offers similar conditions as a natural salt mine. The Hammam (the traditional Turkish bath), the swimming pool and the Jacuzzi are other options offered in this health center. The two Malls and four hypermarkets will definitely satisfy the shopping fan`s tastes.  

Another two big projects the tourism route from Pietricica and  Cozia Mountain will definitely transform the Piatra Neamt city in a small touristic paradise.

The tourism route from Pietricica Mountain will be accomplished in a series of alleys and treads. At 35 m altitude will be constructed an edifice in order to ensure the departure of the oblique elevator which will continue the ascension to the top of Pietricica Mountain. The elevator`s cabin will offer a great panorama and will give the travelers the chance to see a unique perspective over the city during their ascension to the top.

                A pedestrian alley with a total length of approximately 250 m will follow the field declivity as accurate as possible in order to integrate it in the natural environment of its route, but changes will be made in order to ease the effort in crossing it and to make it as accessible as possible. The route will be endowed with rest areas and panoramic sports.

                The cable transportation equipment between Pietricica and Cozla will provide the 2,5 km link from Pietricica to Cozla Mountains. The transportation will be realized with 2 cabins endowed with a tanspareant glass floor, each of them having 40 seats.

                The Tourism Information Point from Republicii Blvd., within the preant of the GT.Kirileanu County Library, is avaible for every visitor, displaying the city maps and informational materials about Piatra Neamt  and its touristic surroundings.

                Main interest for the North-Eastern tourism, Piatra Neamt constitutes a departing spot for the mountain routes towards Durau, at the foot of the Ceahlau Montain, or  towards Bicaz Gorges, or Targu Neamt, on the monasteries' range. The city has a rich cultural life, organizing annually international theater, musical and plastic arts festivals.
