Romanian Film Promotion Association (APFR) organize, with support Babel Communications and National Film Center, Gopo Awards Gala (named in honor of the renowned Romanian filmmaker, whose famous jack shape trophies event) - Film Industry Awards in Romania.

Gopo Awards is a prestigious annual event which honors the achievements of national cinema during the previous year and promote the true values of the field among a wide audience.

Gopo Awards take place after the model adopted by the most important events of its kind in countries with strong cinema, like the United States (Academy Awards, Golden Globes), France (Cesar), UK (BAFTA), Spain (Goya) Denmark (Guldbagge).

Trophies are awarded annually in Gopo Awards Gala, in a vote of over 350 professionals from all sectors of the local film industry. They elect, by individual and secret vote, the best of the nominees in each competitive category, chosen by a jury of personalities in the field. Nominations to the Best European film are done every year by a panel of five of the most important Romanian film critics.
