Four Romanian Teams Advance To Europa League Group Stage

The Romanian teams FC Timisoara, CFR Cluj, Dinamo Bucharest and Steaua Bucharest move on to the next stage in UEFA's Europa League.

FC Timisoara qualified directly in the groups of the Europa League after it lost to Germany's VfB Stuttgart on Wednesday in the Champion League play-offs.

CFR Cluj won 2-1 the second-leg tie with Bosnian team FK Sarajevo. The first-leg meeting ended 1-1.

Dinamo Bucharest qualified on Thursday night in the groups of Europa League, after penalty shootout in the second-leg tie with Czech team Slovan Liberec. Dinamo was handed the default defeat following crowd trouble in the home match on August 20, which had ended 0-2 on the field.

Steaua Bucharest qualified in the Europa League groups after Thursday's 2-1 victory over Irish Saint-Patrick's Athletics. Steaua had scored three goals in the first-leg tie.

The 2009/10 UEFA Europa League group stage draw is scheduled for Friday, August 28.
